My Vet Visit.

I have had an owie under my eye for a while and the Beans have been putting the magic gel on it to clear it up but it wasn't getting any better. On Monday morning I heard mum on the phone while I was eating my breakfast but didn't take any notice until I heard the dreaded V E T mentioned. All seemed normal after that so I didn't take any more notice. Big mistake! Next thing I knew I was being stuffed into the PTU and then into the metal monster.

The V E T said I was a good boy and looked at my owie. He said it was a bacterial skin infection which could have been caused by some injury and asked if I was a fighter. Dad told him that we never came into contact with other cats and Flynn and I never fight apart from playing. When we play we never bite or scratch each other. He said I could have scratched it myself which mum thinks is most likely because she keeps telling me to stop digging my face. Also it could have been caused by a tick which I scratched off myself before they saw it. That is also a strong possibility because I have had lots of ticks at different times, but Flynn never seems to get any.
The V E T said he would give me Auntie's Biotik so I thought I would have some icky medicine, but next thing I knew, the evil V E T stabbed me! He took me by surprise and I didn't even have chance to say meow. I have to go back in two weeks if it is no better. Mum thinks it is starting to look better already.
There was some good news though. He looked at my teefs and said they were very good and I don't need to have them done. That is particularly good news because I have always suffered from tartar build up and red gums ever since I was little. Two or three years ago I had to have three teefs stolen. Dad brushes my teefs every day since then with Logic oral gel so it is obviously working.
The other good news is that I have lost weight. I was 23lbs and now I am 20.5 lbs. Mum gradually took us off our dried food and now we only get Stinky Goodness. I prefer dried food but it doesn't seem likely I will get it again Hmphhh!!!
Mum said I was very good in the PTU because I never said a word all the way to the V E T, and only said two little meows on the way back and it is 30 minutes each way. Last time I went, I hollered all the way there and all the way back again.

That was a nasty owie and we are glad to know you had it check over by the Vet. We hope now that it will heal up without any further attention from the Vet.

  6. We hope your owie clears up quickly with the antibiotics, Eric.

And it's great news re. your teeth and your weight loss! Well done to your dad for brushing your teeth (and you for tolerating it) and to your mom with sticking with the diet change. Sometimes it's hard not to give when cats pull the "I'm starving and going to die any second" look. :-P

  8. Thank goodness you are OK....did you get bit by a snake Eric?
Hey, bravo for losing weight Eric (((clapping))). We don't eat dry food either, we are fed 9am and 9pm, Wellness canned.....we don't get snake snacks or mouse meals 'cause we can't wonder in our yard, darn. There is a Vet group where we go and it is about a 25 minutes ride. This Vet group is opened 24/7 ....every day, all year long. When Tinker was there for a few days, Mom felt good that he was always monitored.
Mommy is planting mint around the yard to keep ticks away from ICE.=^Y^=

  9. Eric, my mummy is sad that you won't be visiting us (she convinced herself that was what the PTU was for) but she's happy you're well.

  20. What a brave and wonderful boy! We are so proud of you for bring such a good kitty at the vets. It is excellent news, to be sure, to hear that your wound is getting better already. Maybe those shots aren't so bad after all. We are also glad to hear of your weight loss and even more glad to hear it was intentional. Mum always gets panicky when we older kitties start to loose weight for no reason. And nice clean teeth too? Wow!
You deserve some very special treats. Love to you and sweet Flynn.

  23. I'm glad that your vet visit went well (well, as well as can be expected, what with you getting stabbed and all). Paws up on the weight loss! Personally I think wet food is way better than the dried stuff.

  24. Oh no Eric, poor you. No only having a nasty owie, but having to go to the V-E-T.

  26. Eric we are sending yoo healing purrs for that nasty ouchy. We've heard that Aunty Biotics is brilliantly effective so we're hoping you will be better in two shakes of a cat's tail. We're both gonna shake our tales right now!

  27. Glad to hear that things are getting better already. Take care and keep healing!

  28. Oh goodness, I'm glad your ouchie is getting better already. We only eat wet foods now, too! We do not think kibble is very healthy.

Hooray for good teeths! Harley has troubles with his teeth and gums, and he uses something called PetzLife Oral Gel; maybe it is similar to your gel.

  29. Eric we are sure glad you are getting better. Actually that shot is a whole lot better than pills every day or that yucky liquid. That is such good news about your toooofs. Some of us have bad tooofs too.
Have a great non vet day.

  30. Eric poor baby!!! We are so sorry about your owie. Mom read your post to me I told her it sounded like a catmare!!! You got crammed into the carrier and then stabbed. Holy Moley that is a lot for one kitty. I told mom the reason you didn't put up a fuss on the way home was because you were working on a plan of revenge.
The good news about being 'stabbed' is you don't have to have a pill poked down your throat every day. Take care
    Hugs Madi and Mom

  31. Hi Eric - we hope your eye ouchie goes away quickly - why do they always say this won't hurt a bit before they stab you - well they're right it doesn't hurt a bit it hurts big time.

  35. Hi Eric! We're glad to hear you survived the v-e-t visit! We hope your eye gets better soon. And that's great news that you lost some weight. We like dry foods too...but mom tries to give us more stinky goodness because she doesn't want us getting fat(ter). Haha!!

  36. Wow, Eric - what a harrowing tail, ur tale!! It's always yucky to go to the V-E-T, argh!! We hope your owie goes away 'real quick!! - Great news about your teefs, tho!!

Our Mom took away our crunchies, too!! What the heck is with these humans?! OMC - we just don't understand why they do that - they say it's for our own good - but how many bad things do they put us through & say that??!

    Have a great day!

    ~Nico, Simon & JayJay :)

ps.Mom "awwed" about your weight (we're smaller kitties) because she had Austin & his brother, Tigger a long time ago who were both over 20lbs & she misses cuddling with those bigger kitties!!

  40. YOW, that is one ogly owie. Glad it seems to be going away with that Auntie's help.

    ppuurrrrrrr

  41. Eric that is awful that you have an owie under your eye! But it is good that it is looking better already - we will send you lots of purrs for it to get better, so hopefully you won't need to get stuck again!

And we didn't know you had tooth problems - Kirzon has ones like you do (lots of tartar and red gums) so he has to get checked at the vet a lot. Mom has thought about trying to brush but at his age she thinks it will be tough - but since you didn't start getting brushed til a couple years ago maybe she will give it a try. Kirzon is older than when you started, but since you didn't start til you were older maybe it will work with him too.

  42. Well, I'm glad to hear that your boo-boo is improving already, Eric. And congratulations on losing some weight and having a good dental report, too! Soon you'll be better than ever.

Sometimes the V-E-T can be quite helpful if if they are very prickly!
