What Was It?

Yesterday in my Wordless Wednesday post when I was dining al fresco, several of you asked what the "rock" was that was next to me. Fuzzy Tails guessed right when they said they thought it was a solar owl.

I would like to introduce you to Ollie the Owl.

This is what he looks like at night. He sits on the step to guide the Humans home when they have been indulging in adult beverages.

Message from mum.
OLD READER.
When Google Reader finished, we changed to Old Reader. We were getting on well with it when they closed down for a short time. They had such an influx of new members that they couldn't cope and had to upgrade their server. I don't blame them at all for that as to have your membership to rise so dramatically in such a short time must have been quite an ordeal for them. However I am finding that most of my subscriptions aren't posting for 8-10 hours, and I know that some aren't posting at all. I have been trying to visit using a mix of Old Reader and the Blogger reading list, which incidentally I have found that not all posts show there either. This means we have missed a lot of posts we would normally have visited. I have decided to go back to the way I did it several years ago and put a links list back in the side bar. It looks as if I will have to enter the url for each blog separately. I have them in the file I saved from GR. If I am missing something and can do it in a quicker way would someone please let me know how. I will only be able to do so many a day so it will take a while, but hopefully I will once again see more accurately who has made a new post. I do miss Google Reader!

  5. Mowzers. We totally gave up on all that and went with Feedly.(And we're thinking we might not have migrated it all over there either *sigh*)

  6. That owl is all kinds of awesome!

I'm still wondering why Google shut down Reader.

  7. Ollie, welcome to the Cat Blogosphere! We believe you are the first owl we've seen here.

  8. That Owl is pawesome, especially at night!

We miss the way that Google Reader "just worked," and are still finding blogs that fell through the cracks during the transition. Most perplexing!

  9. We like Ollie's big bright eyes!

The mom says the same thing about Old Reader. Some subscriptions show up late or sometimes not at all. It's very frustrating. The mom has also been using Feedly which works pretty good except on her iPad. She really misses Google Reader.

  10. We love that owl! And Feedly has also been slower to update for us but I don't think we're missing very many posts.

  13. Oh that Owl is just terrific. We like that a lot.
We use the list of blogs on our side bar and like it a lot. It is a pain to load it up, but once it is done, it is so nice. Take care everyone.

  16. I'm using Feedly and I love it! Of course, I switched when it could import my list from google Reader. Now that's not an option. But it's easy to do anyway.

    Good luck!!

  17. We love your owl his eyes are very bright.
Mum has two different headings for comments - one is under our blogger name Hannah and Lucy so we can see who has commented on our blog, and the other we call "Cat tails" and like you the names are of our regular friends are there with their urls so we can get back quickly. This can be added to or deleted from as we go along so once it is done it only takes a few moments to amend.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  19. Yay, we guessed right. LOL. That owl is so cute. Laughed over how he guides your humans home after they've indulged in adult beverages.

We switched to Feedly and it seems to be fine so far. At least we're used to it now. :-)

  20. Ollie is sooo cute! Mom wants to know if you bought him locally or online?

We're using Bloglovin. We liked Old Reader but quit it after all the problems.

  21. We would never have guessed that this was a solar owl - how appropriate though - as owls are reported to be able to see in the dark!

PS we put our links in the sidebar, it seems to work for us.

  22. Your owl is a cutie! Nice to have a bright eyed little friend to guide you home.
We don't have a bloggie. All of this is much too confusing for us.

  23. We love Ollie the Owl! We use Feedly to follow our blogging friends and really like it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know how hard it is to follow everyone...I follow most via email (which causes over 200 emails a day!!) and another EASY way is to follow everyone on BlogLovin (most of us are there!)

  26. That is so cute. Never seen an owl like that. That must be why I am not getting some of my blogger friends posts. So far I have not had issues with yours.

  27. Oh Ollie is so cute!!!!
Jackie have you tried Feedly? It seems to work the best. I tried Old Reader (gave up on that first), then BlogLovin (it's OK) but Feedly seems to be the easiest. I've had some blogs not import but from what I can tell most of them did and update just like they are supposed to.

  28. Thanks for introducing us to Ollie, Flynn. He's cool! :)

We have been using Feedly, which seems to be working pretty well...

  29. I still go off of my link list on my blog. I never got into a routine with Google Reader. Good luck. If you find a better system let us know.

  30. Meow we think Dad can use that Owl. He has auto lights but... On THOSE days... Yep, he can use it. MOL
    Timmy

    Dad:
I have been using Feedly. You can export what you have done in Old Reader so you do not have to put all in one at a time just click on your name on the Right Top of Old Reader. Settings. Go to the very Bottom. Export your Feeds as an OPML file. Just save it where you want. Then Open Feedly and go to

    http://cloud.feedly.com/#cortex

    Hope that helps

  31. First off, that owl is downright scary. If he wasn't serving a purpose, we would say to give him the heave-ho. Mom gets all her posts via e-mail. That's the only way she knew how to do it in the beginning and has just kept it that way. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  32. Teri is using BlogLovin' but needs to clear out her blogroll! She just made a new blog for Coco, the Couture Cat but there isn't anything on it yet. She wants to buy a domain name and make it official soon!

  33. We love Ollie! We think that company should make a cat one, too!
