Forbidden Sunspots.

Yesterday when I got caught checking out the Bonsai tree, that was not the only reason I was caught out. Can you believe we are not allowed on the worktops? You only have to look to see that it is the most wonderful sunspot and mum thinks I shouldn't be up there. Madness!!!

Anyway, after I had enjoyed the sun for a while I decided to see what the little tree smelled like.

Then I checked to make sure it had enough water. Nope, looks too dry to me. Mum should be grateful that I let her know it needed watering instead of making me get down.

This is the Bean's Christmas Cactus. It used to belong to our dad's mum and is very old. They brought it with them when they moved when dad was a very small boy so must be at least 56 years old. It lives in the porch. Mum just put it on the worktop to take the photo. It lives outdoors in the summer and has often had big pieces broken off when we get strong winds, but it seems to survive everything.

Eric, we just ignore all those dumb rules about no cats on the counter. I don't know why moms and dads make those rules up, anyway.

Beautiful Christmas cactus! This year, our scrawny little one has about seven buds on it, first time in eons. (In past years my mom has nearly killed it by forgetting to water it.)

I think your mum should clear off the counter and put a nice cat bed in the window for you boys to bask in the sun...LOL, does she hate me now? :-)

That Christmas cactus is spectacular!!!

If it involves post material, I've found that my human bean'll usually let me disobey long enough to get pictures. :) I guess it's that way with your human bean too!

PS We have a christmas cactus too! *high five*

In the case of good sun puddles, all flat surfaces defer to the cats. Ord. #3684a (to correct Brian above)

Not allowed on the worktops? Now, that is very funny! How do you keep a kitty off of them? MOL

That must be a record for the oldest living cactus! It is beautiful!

*sigh* Eric, Rumblemum wants me to tell you she'd let you on the counters any time you wanted (it's true. She lets me if I give her my cute look)

No Cats on the Counters!!?? Pfffft. We get shooed off too but as soon as backs are turned we pretty much do what we want. Pumpy sits on our dining room table all the time and there's no stopping him. Sometimes when guests come over they're shocked and horrified. But is sitting on a table the worst thing in the world? I think not.

Those are pawsome sunspots. We think it's kinda unfair to keep the kittehs away from them.

Wow, that Christmas cactus is very long-lived indeed! Our mom would have killed it off (accidentally) long ago, so it's good she doesn't have one. LOL.

As for not being allowed up there...Huh? Of course you should be in the warmest, sunniest spots of YOUR house!

It's so unfair that you aren't supposed to be up there and take advantage of all that wonderful sun!! Our mom gave up trying to keep us off...we never listened to her!!

That cactus is something!! Our mom has never had good luck with those.

Sunspots and work surfaces were made with cats specifically in mind so we think your mum might be wrong on this occasion Eric (but don't tell her we told you)!!

Oh Eric we are so glad you jumped up onto the 'forbidden area' otherwise we would never had seen the lovely bonsai. We hope you didn't receive too many demerits for that leap!!
After all you are a heat seeking kitty right?

PS the Christmas Cactus is absolutely beautiful and what a family treasure too. Mom said she'd be afraid to have something that valuable for it would surely meet an untimely demise with her as a caretaker.

We follow the sun as well. Not your fault that it happens to fall on the forbidden worktop. We think you deserve to soak up da sunshine where ever. We love those plants especially the heritage Christmas cactus, it's beautiful! Certainly doesn't look its age!

The Christmas cactus is so beautiful. And huge! We don't think that we've ever seen one outside of Longwood Gardens so big and so covered with blooms What a treasure. A real living family heirloom. Your mum must have a very green thumb to keep it in such excellent condition and to have it bloom so close to Christmas day. Your bonsai looks lovely too. Mum always admires them. How old is yours? The trunk looks mature.
We claim all sun puddles as our own no matter where they land. Hugs and kisses@
