The Visitor.

Flynn: Hey what are you doing here? This is my sunbathing spot.

You're supposed to be afraid of me, why aren't you flying away?

You do realise I could have you for my supper don't you.

Hmphh, if you are going to ignore me, I will turn my back on you too.

Oh good, mum's fattening him up for us.

Eric: If I watch him from behind this wire mesh he won't be able to see me.

He has come closer, do I dare pounce with mum watching me?

Huh! The cheek of it. He is drinking our rain water now.

Note from mum:
We had heavy rain and very strong wind the night before these photos were taken. The pigeon is a ringed homing pigeon and was probably exhausted from the bad weather. He was looking very sorry for himself and let me catch him. His ring had this year's date on it so this is probably his first year of racing. The boys were very interested but couldn't understand why he wouldn't fly which is most likely what saved him as there is no point in catching something that just sits and looks at you. He is now looking much better and flying as soon as I or Eric and Flynn approach and should very soon fly back to his own loft.

  2. How interesting! A homing pigeon! Moms brother used to do that for a hobby in the 60's.

The point about not catching something that just sits there and looks at you is well taken. That's exactly what our guinea pigs do.

  3. Yes indeed it must move for our kitties to pursue it!

Still Momma I would be most interested in the smells from a live fev-ver!

    Great pictures boys!

  4. Oh, my! We never noticed the band around the leg yesterday. We hope Mr. (or Ms.) Pigeon makes it home safely!

  5. We think Mr Pigeon must have been feeling bad to let Flynnie Flynster get so close to him. Our sparrows and blackbirds move at the slightest sense of movement.

  6. Yes, that is quite a story and I hope it makes it where to where it is supposed to end up!

  10. Hmmmmm. That makes sense. We lose interest as soon as our victims stop moving...that is if we're not eating them.

  12. Poor fellow. He was fatigued and probably lost as he's still young. The picture of Flynn sitting next to him is amazing. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to send it to the little fellow's owners! Hope he regains his strength and can make it home.

  15. We hope the pigeon has a safe return journey. It was nice of yoo to feed him and let him rest.

We liked your mesh run ~ dad's thinking of building us one. Can we see more pics of it ~ does it attach to the house or is it free standing?

  19. WE saw the band on his leg.Glad you were able to catch him. Also glad to hear that he is flying again. He might have been a little sick too. Glad Eric and Flynn didn't hurt him and I am sure it is because he didn't move. Great pictures.
    Have a great day.

  20. These are truly amazing pictures of of Eric and Flynn sitting my observing the pigeon. I wonder if they realized he was injured? Animals are smart. Does his band tell who owns him? Safe travels to him.

  22. This is one of the reasons I love your blog! You have such interesting and diverse pictures -- these are once in a lifetime shots, I think.

I'm so glad the pigeon is safe, and hope that he will soon fly home. In the meantime, I know he's in good hands (and paws) with you.

By the way, I made a LOL out of your Wordless Wednesday shot of Flynn with the pigeon. I have made a reference to 'Victoria's Secret' which is a ladies lingerie store in the States (just in case it didn't make sense to you).

  24. How exciting though to get to encounter a pigeon close up. Ours are all so dramatic and just fly away when you even look at them. I hope he will find his home soon :)

  31. Yes, prey that does not move is not very fun. Although I might have been tempted to give him a lick to see how he tasted.
