We are getting lots of storm force wind, so I have decided the best place to be is on the bed.
There is a nice sun puddle here for me to enjoy.
It gives me chance to show off my tummy, tail and toesies again.
I have to make the most of the sun before the rain comes back.
Here's a bonus for you of my pink paw pads.
UPDATE:
Mum hasn't given an update lately as every time things start well, then it goes wrong again. We have been afraid of jinxing things but lots of you have been asking how I am doing.
I was doing all right on the transdermal gel but after a few days I started to go downhill again getting lethargic and sick.
Mum had ordered holistic Thyroid Gold Support for me. The first day I ate my food with the drops on it. The second day I wouldn't touch it, so she mixed them with water and gave in a syringe. I was sick afterwards. The same thing happened on the third day and I was violently sick and I had stopped eating again.
It seems that even though it is a natural product that I can't take that either.
I went back to see my vet last Monday and even though I was eating very little, I had put a very small amount of weight on. He checked my heart and said it sounded good. That is the problem with not being on thyroid medication, it can put a strain on my heart and lead to heart failure. Kidney failure can also result from untreated hyperthyroidism. I am being monitored for both but didn't have to get my blood stolen this time.
My mum caught a pee sample from me and that is showing blood again and also high white blood cell count.
My vet wanted to put me on antibiotics but knows how mum feels about them after taking the others in the beginning, and also the convenia injection which she is sure is what made me so very ill.
He suggested to her that I go on oxytetracycline tablets and watch carefully for any adverse effects. I have been on them for 8 days now and my poops are getting better. They do give me wind when I get in the litter box though, so everyone knows what I am doing.
I am also on a low dose of prednisolone to help any inflammation in my gut, and he said sometimes they can also put weight on and make me want to eat which would be good in my case.
Mum weighed me again at the weekend and I had put a little bit more weight on and am now exactly 11 pounds. I had gone down to under 10 pounds when I was at my worst around Christmas.
I always used to be a fit 15 - 16 pounds and we know I will never get back to that, but any weight increase is good.
I am much livelier too and go for short walks when the weather is good. I do tire easily, but maybe one day I will be able to go on longer walks around the fields again. I have my paws crossed that I continue to feel better and am asking you to keep your paws crossed for me too.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the update. Getting things into balance has been a long, hard road, hasn't it? But it sounds like you are feeling fairly happy in yourself at the moment and that really is all that matters. Please continue to eat well and enjoy every moment. We will of course continue to cross paws and hooves for you.
Purrs,
The Chans

ReplyDeleteFlynn, I am crossing my paws, my eyes and anything else I can for you to continue getting better! I'm glad this latest course of meds seems to be working better for you, and I REALLY hope it continues.
ReplyDeleteWe love your sunpuddling pictures. We have storm since last night too. Hope the weather will change soon. You're in our purrayers every day, dear Flynn. Healing Pawkisses <3
ReplyDeleteSo we can be cautiously optimistic, buddy! :) Keeping everything crossed still for you and sending purrs that you are now on an even keel! As for the weather! Pretty awful here too. Keeping hunkered down, though I did catch a large vole for mum this morning, but she wasn't as appreciative as I would have thought! xx

Thanks for the update. it sounds like the meds are worse than the thyroid problem. We hope things continue to go well and that you get stronger every day.
ReplyDeleteWe love you!
The Florida Furkids
We appreciate the update and are sorry that even the natural meds don't work for your system. You know, if the Pred works, that's great. I fussed about it for Nicki--he was on it for 8 - 9 months with the asthma before we went to the inhaled Flovent--but really, if Nicki were a senior cat, I'd have stuck with the Pred and not worried so much about it. I know cats can tolerate it fairly well, though also know the possible side effects and complications. Still, you have to weigh the benefits in this instance, so yes, paws and fingers crossed, lots of purrs and universal Light.
ReplyDeleteBTW, our human was very distracted by that lovely comforter or bedspread! Love the colours!
ReplyDeleteFlynn you look ever so comfy up on your Mum's bed in that sun puddle....and I can tell you've gained a bit of weight back which is good. It sounds like your current treatment plan is working for you without any ill effects and that's just grand. The other thing is that my Mom and I are so impressed that your vet is sincerely trying his bet to make you feel better and keep a close eye on you along with your Mum and Dad. It makes us feel good knowing we're being looked after with love doesn't it Flynn.....believe me, I know that feeling too! I'm sending you POTP and hugs.......here's to the future my friend!
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
Oh Flynn, we sure hate to hear this BUT the predisolone sometimes does work .We had a kitty on that that had thyroid and it helped her a lot. We sure send tons and tons of purrs and prayers to you. Flynn, you have such a good team, with your Mom and Dad and that good vet helping you. We all have our paws crossed for you too.
ReplyDeleteWe continue to purr for you, Flynn, and hope the medicines help you. Thanks for sharing your toesies, tummy and tail with all of us today.
ReplyDeleteGood on you Flynn, just take a day at a time and enjoy those sunbeams.
ReplyDeleteSweet Flynn, you look so relaxed napping on your parents' bed. We hope they get some extra naps, too, while their little patient is resting his toesies, tummy and tail. Mme. Mephi Wu is much older than you, and now she prefers to drink bottled spring water and eat from a buffet of little paper plates -- sometimes she likes this, the next day she prefers something else. We just keep nibbling along, one tablespoon at a time.
ReplyDeleteThe weather may not be good, but at least you are doing good! Thanks to your mum and dad for taking such wonderful care of you!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up! You're doing great! And enjoy lounging in the sun puddles.
ReplyDelete--Jasper

Hello sweetheart. We thank you for your update as we've been shy about asking. You know you are always in our prayers and our love is always with you.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we kitties need to find an antibiotic we can tolerate. Unfortunately, it's a trial an error process. Hopefully this one will work for you. One of us is on prednisolone too and one of the good ( as far as we're concerned) side effects is weight gain. There is a prescription diet made by Hills for kitties with thyroid issues called Hills y/d. If your mum reads up on it and is comfortable with it, maybe she could ask the vet if it would be appropriate for you since you can't take the meds.
We wish there was something we could do to tho help you feel better, dear one. You hold a very special place in our hearts. All of our love always.
It must be very frustrating not to be able to find something that helps your condition without making you sick. I'm surprised the gel didn't work. But one day at a time, eh? Keep putting on weight and eating - and pooping regularly, even if you are a bit windy doing it. Right now, go for substance, not style!
ReplyDeleteLike John said it's must be terribly frustrating not to find something that will work. We are very sorry. We will continue to purr and pray and we are glad you are doing better right now Flynn.
ReplyDeleteThose are such nice pictures of Flynn. I hope he's eating and having a good day today.
ReplyDeleteSending purrs to Flynn and to his family.

Well we all just love your tummy, tail and toesies Flynn buddy!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing laying out just like we cat's do and our people wish they could.
Well that is difficult about the meds. Dad is really against that convenia shot as it has made a lot of our friends very ill. I am glad the pills are working. The steroids should help pep you up too. Rumpy has been on them for over a year with his up and down asthma issue. He is slowly learning to take an inhaler but not there yet.
Love the Easter look of your bloggie
Love Purrs and Prayers
