An Update from my Mum.

I have another update from my mum. I will let her tell it.

I saw the specialist this morning and it wasn't good news. The biopsy showed that the cysts are the same as those when I had the hysterectomy, so the same cancer has returned. I asked how that could be if my womb etc. was removed. He said there could have been microscopic seedlings that had migrated to the bowel that have now become active.
They are not operating because it won't be successful. I had thought it was because it wasn't bad enough to do so, but there could be many tiny cysts that they can't see and so they would be left behind to grow.
My level of oestrogen which is feeding the cancer is high so I have to take a hormone tablet daily. Hopefully it will block it and starve the tumours and cysts so they shrink. I have to go back in 6 weeks and then have another scan. If they are shrinking that will be good. If they haven't changed I will try a different hormone tablet.
If that doesn't work, it will be chemotherapy.
Because it is almost 6 years since I originally had cancer, that indicates that is not an aggressive cancer and hopefully slow growing. The specialist said it is not life threatening at the moment.
Ivor and I both feel devastated. I had gone to my appointment ready to fight and kick a$$, only to be told it can't be cured, but hopefully it can be controlled.

  2. Mom has been reading blogs only a little and we had missed the earlier posts about your troubles, Jackie. We are so sorry about this result and will keep you in prayers for the hormone tablets to shrink the tumors. We hate cancer so much but have hopes that you can beat this back and feel a lot better. 4. By slowing it down or stopping its growth you are kicking it in the arse. We 100% believe that you can do it, you can and you will. We all love you and send purrs and prayers to you.

  5. We are praying that the hormone treatment will curtail the growth of those cysts/tumors so that you will be able to enjoy life again for many years with 100% health.

I have a friend who has 'chronic' ovarian cancer for over ten years. She is in a clinical study and seems to have gotten the current relapse under new control. It us possible to live with these things, because she travels and has lots of things going on in her life. Sometimes it makes her take a detour, but then she gets back on hte road. I myself am a 10year survivor os=f stage 3b ovarian cancer...multiple surgeries and 16 months of the dreaded chemo. I have been working in a local nursing home for the past 5 1/2 years now...its hard work, but I can do it because I want to do it.
God healed me and He can heal you. I pray for this to be your gift too. Big hugs!

  12. Please stay strong, and keep up the fight. We will hope and pray and fight along with you, dear friend. My dad had cancer, and was given 3 months to live, and stubborn guy that he was, dug his heels in and fought. He ended up living for almost 18 more years. The doctors still can't explain what happened. Much love and all good thoughts to you, Ivor and Flynn.

  23. I don't know if this will be of any help but I have a friend who has had a recurrence of cancer. This doesn't replace any medical care but she is on a ketognic diet which is based on the premise that sugar(carbs) feed cancer cells. If you feel up to it you might want to look into it. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ketogenic -- sorry for the misspelling. I have a cat, I wonder who, sitting on the keyboard with me as I type.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We send you tons of love and furry hugs. We hope the tablets help as expected. Purrs

    ReplyDelete
  26. Damn it, this pisses me off. Sorry for the language, but you deserve better than this. All right, there are some good things here, even so. As you wrote, it is not an aggressive cancer, so you have some time on your side for the tablets to work. And there is a secondary defence in another kind of hormone. And even then, there is chemotherapy. I know that is something to be avoided but it's another attack on this despicable cancer, if the others don't work.

I don't know the details, of course, but you can beat this thing. It may be that you'll have to live with it, but that doesn't mean you won't be beating it. Controlling it will be beating it at its own game. A long and gentle life still awaits.

  27. I am now an 11-year survivor of Stage IV ovarian cancer, and I can tell you that the fight you have in you is good, and will help you face your future.

  28. I am upset at this news! I can just imagine how crushed you and Ivor are by this news. Let's focus on the more promising news. This is not an aggressive cancer and they can give you a different hormone. Chemo is always an option. You seem very strong Jackie and I'd say...I for one am on your, "rooting team."

  38. Thank you for the update. It's hard to hear but now the fight begins. You will kick cancer's butt into submission, you will go on with your life and not let cancer define you in any way or take away any of the joy you and Ivor and Flynnie share.
This is all scary as hell but you will prevail! We are all with you on this journey. And if for any reason you may feel the need, there are additional specialists for second opinions on how to best treat your condition, We love you and please know you and Ivor and Flynnie remain in our prayers.

Marty the Manx has left a new comment on your post "An Update from my Mum.":

I am so sorry that the results are not what you expected. There is the hope that the tumors can be shrunk or made "dormant" with the medications which is very positive. Please don't feel like you can't fight this. My Mom's cancer was/is very estrogen loving also. She has done a lot of research on what dietary changes to make to avoid estrogen rich food and what foods help fight cancer/ are anti-oxidant. With a 60/40 chance of recurrence in the first 5yrs, she has made it 8 so far and says to tell you keep thinking positive and don't let it get your wonderful spirit down. (she and dad are big fans of you and Flynn)
