This week the flashback comes from August 2008 and is called:
My Scruffy Rat.
When we were kittens, one of our very first toys was a black rat. I told Flynn it was mine, and it was and still is my most favourite toy in the whole world. I call him Scruffy Rat, but I don't think mum knows his name because she calls him Fred Bear. Silly mum, surely she can see he's not a bear.
I like to chew him and bunnykick him. It's lots of fun. He is the only toy I have really loved.
He doesn't look much like a rat any more. Most of his black furrs have gone, and one ear and both eyes, and all his stuffing is coming out, but I still love him. Mum bought some new black mousies that looked like Scruffy when he was new, but they aren't my Scruffy Rat and no way am I going to play with them.
Note: Scruffy was buried with Eric so he can still bunny kick him at the Rainbow Bridge.

ReplyDeleteWe can tell the difference. When my Skinnezzz was lost, TW tried buying an imposter. I knew the difference and wouldn’t play with it. I’m sorry your shmousy went bye bye.
ReplyDeleteEric we sure are glad that you have Scruffy Rat at the Bridge with you. Oskar has Woolly Man there with him too who he had from the time he was little! So glad he wasn't the only one who took his favorite toy with him :)

Some of OUR best toys are ones "all worn out".
ReplyDeleteGosh Mr. Scruffy certainly did get "well loved" didn't he?! I think it's wonderful that he was buried with Eric and now he's probably bunnykicking and carrying him all over the place at the Bridge.....maybe Mr. Scruffy got more furs when he went with Eric to the Bridge??? Who knows.......one day I guess we'll all find out when we get there......
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sammy
We could see how much Eric loved his scruffy rat - we're so glad they are together forever.

What a sweet flashback. It's nice that you buried scruffy rat with Eric.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
It does indeed look like a scruffy rat. There is no replacing a beloved toy. They love them because they love them, and that can't be moved around or switched.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet Scruffy Rat was buried with Eric. We kitties have our favorite toys and love them forever :-)
ReplyDeleteLove that you buried Scruffy Rat with Eric. I have pulled my boys favorite toys to a special place as well, when they crossed the bridge.

When my lovie, Cosmo, was a kitten, the first toy I bought him was a mouse that looked like Eric's Scruffy Rat, although it had a spotted leopard fur & was called Cheetah Rat. Cosmo was never much for toys, but like Eric he loved a good chew & bunny kick session with his rat. When it became very loveworn, I was able to find a brand new one & when I tried swapping it for the raggedy original, it was immediately rejected as a fraud. Cosmo would have nothing to do with it. Good thing I hadn't thrown the ratty old rat out like I planned. I washed this toy a few times & Cosmo made it clear he did not appreciate it. He had to take much time getting his Cheetah Rat to smell & taste like he was supposed to. Cosmo died around the same time as Eric and when I had him cremated, Cheetah Rat went with him too. They were both mancat love bugs who loved their raggedy rat toys until they almost disintegrated Thanks for sharing that memory of Eric, It made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI Love Flashback Friday - Getting to see Eric again. some of these post were from before I found you guys - so its a real treat.
ReplyDeleteHope He's smiling down from the bridge at all of us right now.

Well it does look like that old rat had seen better days! I'm just getting back into things here and only just now noted that you put our Orbit's photo in your side bar. Thank you for adding him to your list and keeping him, along with all the others, in your thoughts. It is very kind of you. Please enjoy the rest of your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet that Scruffy is at the Bridge with Eric!
ReplyDeleteAm still on mega purrs for you Flynn and hope you will be out chasing those Mousies soon, buddy! xxx
Do you think that maybe Eric loves Scruffy rat so much that maybe him turned into real rat likes the Velveteen Rabbit? Just wondering... then they could has lots of fun together at the Rainbow Bridge... Mom says its just a book, but you never know... Daddy God might do something like that... Daddy God can do anything....
ReplyDeletePurrz, Oreo.
Favorite toys deserve to follow our cat friends to the great beyond. Merlin still has his first toy which is a mangled 20 year old squirrel. He's long lost interest in it and I'm not sure what I'll do once he leaves.
ReplyDeleteIt's comforting for all of us to know that Scruffy Rat went with you when you crossed the bridge. When Mum read this post a few days back, she felt it was very ironic because she has been thinking a lot about you and has a feeling you are close. She was afraid you'd go away as sometimes happens when one mentions it, We love you, dear. All of our love, always.
ReplyDeleteWhat cute photos and a wonderfully sweet story. All of ours have been buried with a favorite toy as well. Hugs, Kitties Blue's Mom, Janet
