Eric's Day Flashback

This week the flashback comes from January 2010 and is called

Walking in the Fields.
We got out for another walk when the rain stopped. It is still very cold so we only stay out for long enough to check everything out.

Eric: I had a good scratch around in the leaves. You never know if a little mousie will be waiting there for you.

Flynn: While Eric was doing that, I checked out all the holes the bunnies have been digging in the hedges. They are silly because they only dig a little way and then they go off and leave it.

Then we walked a bit further.

Flynn: I got up on the hedge to look into our neighbour's field to see if he had any little lambs yet. It doesn't look like it.

Eric: I carried on walking along the bottom of the hedge still checking for mousies. Neither of us saw anything. It must be too cold for them.

Eric: Then I sat down and gave mum my mancat pose just to prove that I can pose just as well as Flynn if I want to.

Mancat Monday.

We have had nearly 2 weeks of no rain and the fields have dried out nicely. This means we can go for more walks.

We looked in the hedge to see if any mousies were about.

Mr Badger takes a short cut through the hedge here so I sniffed the thorns to see if he had been here recently.

Then I went a bit higher up the hedge to see if any fevvers have started building their nests yet.

No, nothing to be seen here.

Flynn was watching a mousie hole. He thought I was going to frighten Mr Mousie away.

I didn't though, I walked on past.

Flynn kept watching.....

and I ate some grass.

Walking with Dad.

The rain stopped for a while so the Beans asked if we wanted to go for a walk. Of course we did so we let dad lead the way.

Come on dad, why have you stopped?

He said it was starting to rain again and did we want to go back.

Eric: I thought about it.

Flynn: I had a quick bath.......

and then we were ready.

It wasn't a very long walk but it was better than nothing.

Eric: What do you mean, it's to wet for a BBQ?

Mancat Monday

We are on our patrols again and thought we would check out the wildflowers. These are forget-me-nots which are not really a wild flower, but they are growing wild here in the field.

We don't know what this flower is, but we think it is pretty.

We call this the "Vishus Deer Tree".

It's branches are soft and furry like the velvet on a vishus deer antlers. We don't know what it is called either or how it got here. We think a bird must have dropped a seed at some time.

We had a quick look over to where the badgers live, but didn't go over there.

Checked a few smells........

Phew! It's further to climb back up than I thought.

Then we relaxed in the sun.

Flynn: And I kept a close eye on Eric's shadow in case it jumped on me.

Badger Hunting.

We have made mum walk down by the badger setts. We are not allowed to go in them because badgers have big scary teeth.

See how the grass and leaves are flattened and dead where we are standing. That is because Mr and Mrs Badger walk up and down here all the time.

Eric: ::sniff sniff:: Yup I can smell them.

Where I am walking is the edge of the bank but you can't see it because of the trees. I am looking through the trees to see if I can see them. The badgers have dug their setts into the bank. You can see the soil from one of the entrances in the top right corner.

Flynn: I think I hear movement. They must be home.

Eric: In that case we had better go. You know mum doesn't want us coming face to face with them. So off we went back to the fire and treaties.

Mancat Monday

Eric: These pictures are from just before it got really cold and we were still going out for walks in the fields.

Flynn: It was not long after the Beans came back from their holidays, and we were glad to get out and stretch our legs again.

and to just sit and survey everything.

We checked for introoders.

and mousies.

Flynn: It was good to feel the dirt under my tummy.

Eric: Checking smells and nomming grass, what more can a mancat ask for.

Back in The Old Routine.

Now we have been let out of our purrison cell it is good to get back out in the fields checking on the mousie population.

Hey Eric, stop sniffing my butt!

Arghhhh! He's attacking me!

Yayyy rassle time!

This is fun. It's just not the same indoors.

Now we've had a good rassle we can relax again.

What? I am relaxed.
