This week the flashback comes from February 2013. It was only a month before Eric had to make his journey to the Bridge.
Tree Climbers.
We have had three days of dry weather which means we can go for walks again. We went down to our favourite oak tree.
Flynn: I sharpened my claws ready so I could climb up it.
Up I go! The big trunk goes two ways here.
You will have to be faster than that with the flashy box mum.
I am on my way back down. It is a long way up so mum had to zoom in to see me. Then we had the biggest surprise....
Eric ran up the tree!
Eric: I haven't climbed this tree for a long time so I wanted to show mum and Flynn I can still do it.
Here I am back down in the fork of the trunk.
When I got nearly to the bottom I looked up the other side. Flynn doesn't climb up there because it is vertical and hard to get back down. Mum shouted, "Eric! Don't even think about it. You will get stuck."
Well I didn't think about it, I did it, and yes I did get stuck. Mum had to get up to the fork in the tree then reach her arm up to me so I could walk down it and onto her back and then jump the rest of the way down.
Mum was really surprised at how energetic I was as I am spending a lot of time lying around. I have days when I feel better than others and I wanted to show her I can still climb a tree when I want to.

ReplyDeleteSuch lovely memories. Our cats were never into tree climbing, but one of their Mothers was a tree climber.
ReplyDeleteWow, it looked like those two had A LOT of fun! I'm sure if my kitty tried climbing a tree like that she'd get stuck as well, haha. Such a great memory!
ReplyDeleteThat sure was a great day for you both! Good thing your Mum was there to rescue Eric:)
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Eric was able to climb his tree one more time before he left. That makes a special memory, no doubt - even if he did get stuck.

ReplyDeletedoodz.....we hope therz treez a plentee, feeldz oh green grazz N sunnee dayz on end now ~~~~ this post made uz kinda sad ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteJust love that tree! You could spend all day walking all over it. Great flashback!
ReplyDeleteWe remember. And glad that Eric had a great climb. Even if Mom had to help him get down. Well, Iza doesn't climb trees very often, and has needed sme help getting down. We (Ayla and Marley) have watched her sometimes and she seems to have 2 ways to get down. 1, she yells for DAD. 2, If that doesnt werk, she just sort of falls. She leans over like a dying skwerl and lets go.
ReplyDeleteShe does land on her feet of course, she IS a cat. But it is pretty embarrassing to watch...
There's that famous cattitude, "I want to show x that I can y!" That's Bear's motto!
ReplyDeleteWe loved seeing Eric enjoy one of his last earthly climbs. Doing something we love becomes more important as we age and are no longer as agile. Tight hugs!
ReplyDeleteNice memories ! my cats too loved to climb on our tree, but now it's cut down so no climbing anymore !
ReplyDeleteMeow-wow Miss Jackie you musta had kittenss efurry time Eric an Flynn went upss THE tree!!!
ReplyDeleteThey sure were busy man catss…..
